Woman Files Suit After Receiving Wrong Blood at Hospital

A Michigan woman is set to begin trial against a local area hospital where she nearly died after receiving an improper blood transfusion of type A-positive blood when in fact she is type O-positive. The lawsuit contends that a hospital technician mixed up the woman’s blood with another patient’s which led to the improper transfusion. After the first transfusion, the woman began to experience negative reactions which the hospital  staff failed to identify resulting in a second transfusion again with A-positive blood. As a result this caused the woman to be admitted to the ICU in critical condition where she experienced lung and kidney failure, was ultimately airlifted to a secondary facility, and required extended hospitalization.
