Shulman Rogers is proud to announce a $3.92 million settlement obtained on behalf of our client in a high-profile case stemming from a violent dog attack that garnered significant media attention and public concern. The case involved claims arising from a vicious attack on a minor by two pit bull dogs and was litigated in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. The settlement was approved by the Court on December 11, 2025. In the face of intense scrutiny and a complex evidentiary record, our team acted swiftly to preserve critical evidence, coordinate with experts, and develop a compelling presentation of liability and damages that reflected the profound physical, emotional, and economic harm suffered by our client. The resolution provides meaningful compensation, accountability, and resources for ongoing care for the remainder of the minor’s lifetime.
Mike Nakamura recently settled a case involving a tractor-trailer accident in Charles County. Our client was stopped at a red light in Waldorf, Maryland. The defendant, operating the tractor trailer, approached the intersection as his light turned yellow. He sped up, changed his mind and braked, causing the tractor trailer to violently twist and slide into the Plaintiff’s vehicle.
Our client, an 85-year-old woman, suffered a fractured pelvis, multiple soft tissue injuries and a cardiac-type event while in the hospital. We were able to resolve the claim pre-suit without litigation, securing our client a $540,000 settlement.
Mike Nakamura secured $5 million from the federal government for Jenifer and Sean Mochocki, a U.S. Air Force officer, and their baby. The settlement, which includes a combination of cash and structured annuities that will generate much more than $5 million for the Mochocki family, resolves a medical malpractice suit against doctors at a Florida naval hospital for failing to order a cesarean section despite signs of fetal distress over several hours, resulting in permanent brain damage to the baby.
“This settlement provides millions for the care of baby Mochocki, and it also provides payments to both parents. This was a very good outcome in the case, especially in an environment not known for significant pro-plaintiff awards,” Nakamura said.
This settlement is the latest in a consistent string of million dollar-plus results Mike Nakamura has achieved for birth and brain injury victims. Along with other cases in Florida, Nakamura has achieved seven-figure results for victims in Virginia, South Carolina and Texas.
